Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is infusion therapy?

Infusion therapy delivers medication directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system, so treatments can work more efficiently than oral medication.

What type of conditions does Lifecare Infusion typically treat?

Our facility focuses on intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) and subcutaneous immunoglobulin (SCIG) therapies for Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Crohn's Disease, and more.

How long does an infusion typically take?

An average infusion can take from 30 minutes to a few hours depending on the treatment that you're getting. Please contact our office so that we can give you an estimated time in order to accommodate you as needed.

What can I expect during my first infusion appointment?

When you arrive, our friendly front desk staff will greet you. If you haven't already completed your patient paperwork, we'll guide you through the process. We want to make this as smooth as possible, so if you're able to fill out the forms in advance (you can find them here), that can save time on the day of your appointment.

Next, one of our experienced nurses will meet with you to review your medical history and discuss your treatment plan. They will also check your vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature). This is a great time to ask any questions you may have about your treatment.

During your infusion, our nurses will closely monitor you to ensure your comfort and the proper placement of the IV. They will also periodically check your vital signs. Your well-being is our top priority.

Can I eat or drink before my appointment?

Yes, for most infusions you are welcome to eat prior to each appointment. If you're unsure, please contact us and we will be happy to have you speak to our pharmacist on duty.

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?

We encourage patients to call us at least 24-48 hours in advanced when cancelling or rescheduling appointments.

What happens if I'm late to my appointment?

We encourage you to call us prior to your appointment to let us know if you're going to be late. We give you a courtesy call after 15 minutes to ensure you're going to come in, anything later we are not able to make accommodations for and will have to cancel/reschedule your appointment.

Comfort & Practical Concerns

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes, absolutely. We encourage you to bring someone that can support you or be there for you. We typically have seats for friends or family but our space is very limited. Call us and we can make adjustments as needed.

What should I wear to my appointment?

It's encouraged that patients wear what they feel comfortable in. Clothing that allows access to the arms, or to a port if you have one.

What amenities do you offer?

We offer a variety of refreshments, including hot beverages like coffee and tea, as well as water and juice, and a selection of snacks. For your comfort, our infusion suite features cozy blankets (feel free to bring your own sweater or blanket too!) and comfortable reclining chairs. We also have free wi-fi!

Can I use my phone or laptop during the infusion?

To ensure a peaceful environment for all patients, please bring headphones if you plan to watch movies or videos on your phone during your treatment. Many patients find it more comfortable to nap.

What can I expect after my infusion?

Patients will typically experience some sleepiness after their infusion and that is totally normal! If you're experiencing and side effects that you're concerned about please call our office as soon as possible. We also follow up with you the following business day to ensure your infusion went as expected. Plus, we love hearing from you.

When can I return to my normal activities after my infusion?

Most patients feel comfortable to continue their normal routines immediately after their infusion. If you feel that you're experiencing symptoms that you weren't expecting, please reach out to our office at (702) 665-5730.
